Rev. Johnnie L. Palmer, Sr. is the Pastor of Collins Temple A.M.E. Church in Snow Hill, Maryland. He was appointed as Pastor by Bishop Harry L. Seawright on April 14, 2026, at the conclusion of the Founder's Day and Mid-Winter Meeting of the Second Episcopal District of the AME Church.
He is a native of Pennsylvania; born to Eunice and John Palmer.
Rev. Palmer spent most of his life in New Jersey. Rev. Palmer graduated from Edgewood Regional High School, class of 1983. During his senior year in high school, he responded to the call of the Lord to preach the Word of God. He was licensed to preach on August 15, 1982, under the direction of Rev. Lee C. DeRamus. Before relocating to Baltimore, he served sixteen years as pastor of New Bethany Baptist Church, Philadelphia, PA, and Macedonia Baptist Church, Beverly, NJ. After leaving the pastorate, he returned to his home church, where he served as an associate pastor of Christ Care Unit Missionary Baptist Church, Sicklerville, NJ.
Academically, Rev. Palmer received an associate's degree in business and certification in Funeral Service Education from Mercer County Community College, Trenton, NJ. He received a bachelor's degree in Bible and Chrisitan Leadership from Philadelphia Biblical University, Langhorne, PA, a Master of Arts in Theology, a Master of Divinity from Liberty Baptist Seminary, Lynchburg, VA, and an MBA from Strayer University. A perpetual student, he is in pursuit of his D.Min from Luther Rice College and Seminary, Lithonia, GA.

God orchestrated his moving to the Baltimore area; in October 2013, he became a member of the Vaughn C. Greene Funeral Services staff. In 2025, Rev. Palmer launched out in faith by starting J L Palmer Insurance LLC with a focus on Retirement Income Strategies. Rev. Palmer currently serves as the manager of Covington Funeral Home, Atco, NJ. A firm believer in the church covenant that teaches whenever you leave a church, you should unite with another church. He and his family would make Mt. Calvary AME Church their home. On July 10, 2023, Rev. Palmer was reobligated in the AME Church under the leadership of Bishop James L. Davis. Rev. Palmer is married to the former Barbara A. Ross Palmer. They are the proud parents of fraternal twins, Johnnese and Johnnie, Jr. Rev. Palmer's motto is "If you can dream it, you can do it." His favorite scriptures are Ephesians 3:20 and Philippians 4:13.
